The data refers to forest cover in different altitude zones for the States/UTs of India. Digital Elevation Model from data of Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (2006) was generated to determine forest cover in different altitude zones in all the States and UTs.The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) used in the analysis has a resolution of 90m, which is appropriate for national/sub-national level information of this kind.
The data refers to the area of forest and tree cover. Forest Cover refers to all lands more than one hectare in area, with a tree canopy density of more than 10 percent irrespective of ownership and legal status. Such lands may not necessarily be a recorded forest area. It also includes orchards, bamboo and palm. Tree cover comprises of tree patches outside the recorded forest area exclusive of forest cover and less than the minimum mappabe area (1 ha).
The data refers to States/UTs-wise details of land usage pattern. It provides details of land use (area and percentage) under total geographical area, reporting area for land utilization, forests, not available for cultivation, permanent pastures and other grazing lands, land under miscellaneous tree crops & groves, culturable wasteland, fallow lands other than current fallows, current fallows and net area sown.
Data refers to forest cover change matrix. Change matrix presents change in forest cover classes for a given region (State/UT) during a period of two consecutive assessments in a matrix form by showing the changes of area from one class to another.
